The Metro D line, also known as Purple Line, will soon close for 70 days as the construction continues in the railway expansion project under Wilshire Boulevard.

The service on the route will be suspended at all Union Station stops to Wilshire/Western from May 17 to July 25. Line B service, which shares the Union Station stops to Wilshire/Vermont, will increase from North Hollywood to the center to accommodate passengers.

The transport service will be provided for the last stretch of the line to connect passengers with Koreatown from Wilshire/Vermont to the Wilshire/Normandie and Wilshire/Western stations.

The $ 2.4 billion project to add seven stations and expand the service on the line from Koreatown to Hancock Park, Beverly Hills, Westwood and West broke it more than a decade ago. He faces delays about security Conerns and received a rejection of some Westide residents.

Metro’s goal is to finish the project for the 2028 Olympic Games, but hundreds of millions of dollars promised by the federal government for the project have not yet been delivered. The representative Laura Friedman (D-Glendale), who is in the Transport and Infrastructure Committee of the House of Representatives and recently toured the railway project, also warned that tariffs that affect the cost of materials could raise new obstacles to infrastructure projects.

The current route is one of the most used subway. Passenger numbers for line B and Line D, which Metro combines, were more than 1.8 million in March.

The first phase of the low extension Wilshire Boulevard will include three stations: Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega. They are expected to open at the end of 2025.

The tunnel is complete for that section, according to the Metro. Trade have been placed and lighting has been installed. The Traffic Agency will work below to connect the communication and energy systems between the existing line and the duration of the new sections, the next service interruption.

The next phase of the project will include the Wilshire/Rodeo and Century City/Constellation stations, which is expected to open in 2026. The final section to create the seasons of the Westwood/UCLA and Westwood/VA hospital are planned for an opening of 2027.
