While I hold the edge of Galaxy S25 super thin and light from Samsung, the first word that comes to mind is “airy.” However, my next is: if I were the S25 plus, I would be worried.
In my first against S25 Edge in a preview event in New York, I was surprised how much the new phone of its s25 counterparts has. It maintains the 200 megapixel camera of the Ultra S25, the 6.7 -inch screen of the S25 Plus and the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor that you will find in the other three S25 devices. But it does it within an elegant 5.8 mm titanium frame, with 163 grams. It feels like something I can throw in my bag or pocket and barely notice.
This story is part of Samsung eventCollection of news, tips and advice of CNET on the most popular products of Samsung.
Look at this: Galaxy S25 Edge Hands-on: Samsung’s super thin phone is impressive
In fact, the S25 EDGE seems exactly what an emblematic medium age telephone should be: a fresh and high version of the reference model, which attracts premium characteristics to justify its price of $ 1,100. The exciting design, the ultra -level wide camera and the wide real screen make this an attractive option for whatever something out of the ordinary.
But that does not mean that there are no commitments in the store, the most notable is the battery; More about that later.
The early orders for the Galaxy S25 Edge are now open, and the phone will arrive on May 30. It comes in three colors: silver, jet black and icon blue.
The Galaxy S25 Edge comes in black, silver and blue.
What makes the S25 edge stand out?
The most important question that led to the launch of the S25 Edge has been: why would some want a thinner phone anyway? After spending a little time with the device, I began to see the appeal.
While the thickness of the S25 Edge may not be striking at first sight at first sight, having in their hands the phone is a different story. Comparing how the 5.8 mm frame, 163 g of S25 edge feels with the S25 and S25 Plus, I recorded how much thinner and lighter it is really. As a reference, the S25 baseline is 7.2 mm thick and weighs 162 g, but has a smaller 6.2 -inch screen. The S25 Plus has the same 6.7 -inch screen as the edge, but has a thickness of 7.3 mm and weighs 190 g. It is a notable difference.
The moment of truth was to apply some force to the phone to see if it cools at all. Impressive, he felt resistant. (If not, I probably had Godes in some problems with Samsung). A Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 screen is promoted, along with a backing of Gorilla Glass Victus 2. My initial impression is that you should not worry about accidentally converting the S25 edge into a folding keeping it in your rear pocket, but that is something that I will have to try in my review. The S25 edge is also mintainea the same IP68 classification for dust and water resistance that will be found in the other phones of the S25 series.
The Galaxy S25 Edge (left) is thinner than the S25 plus.
The greatest compensation, at least on paper, seems to be the ability of the battery. The 3,900 mAh battery of the Galaxy S25 Edge Palidece compared to what it will obtain in the baseline S25 (4,000 mAh) and the S25 Plus (4,900 mAh). Samsung does not share how many hours will get the S25 Edge battery, apart from indicating that it will last all day. That is more than I hope to try. The S25 EDGE admits 25 watt wired load and 15 watt wireless load.
With thinner phones, camera hardware can also be reduced. But the S25 EDGE has three cameras: a 12 megapixel wide camera, a 12 megapixel camera ultrawide and a 12 megapixel selfie camera. Megapixels are not everything, so I am anxious to see how that translates into real world photography. Samsung points to Galaxy AI for helping to increase the quality of the camera and to feed photo editing features such as generative edit.
Like the S25 Plus, the S25 EDGE has 12 GB of RAM and storage options of 256 GB and 512 GB. However, it will cost a little more than the S25 Plus: $ 1,100 per 256 GB and $ 1,220 for 512 GB. But it still has a lower price than the ultra of $ 1,300 s25 of first line.
You will find the same characteristics of Galaxy AI that Samsung has a bone promotion in the rest of its S25 phones, as a sketch to obtain images and audio drafts. Gemini’s characteristics are also on board, such as Gemini Live and Circle to Search.
Other companies could soon follow their example and launch their own super thin phones.
On the edge of a new trend
The launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge comes in the middle of a thin telephone phenomenon. Earlier this year, Oppo launched its super thin folding folding, which calls the “thinner book style World Cup”, which measures only 8.93 mm thick when it is closed and 4.21 mm thick when it opens. It is also rumored that Apple is developing a thinner version of “air” of the iPhone 17. And in the MWC 2025, the Telephone Telephone manufacturer showed its thin telephone concept of spark, which measures 5.75 mm thick and weighs only 146 grams, according to the company.
Depending on how consumers respond, S25 Edge could be the phone to help start the thin fashion of the phone. If people do not have to commit too much when it comes to camera, storage and drums, three of the biggest consultations when buying a phone, according to a CNET survey, could be inclined to pay a new factor of form. After all, the phones have become quite boring and predictable, separated from a handful or folding. The s25 edge could be a breath of fresh air.
I hope to see how the s25 edge is maintained in the real world and if you can really maintain its advantage (I had to do it).
