President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that the Russian Ministry of Defense is recruiting almost twice as soldiers than the Ukraine Army every month.

Speaking at a Kremlin meeting on economic development, Putin said up to 60,000 people “are voluntary” to join the Russian armed forces every month, compared to what he described as 30,000 recruited Ukrainians.

“These [Russian volunteers] Include people of your workforce, “Putin told business leaders.

Moscow Times could not independently verify recruitment statements.

Russian authorities have a very promised military recruitment since 2023, offering high salaries as a key incentive. In the fall of 2022, Putin ordered a partial mobilization or 300,000 reservists to compensate for losses of the battlefield in Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defense has not updated its official victims count since then, when it claimed just under 6,000 deaths in the first seven months of large -scale invasion. Independent estimates place the dead Russia war in more than 100,000.

Putin’s comments occurred days after the Republic of Bashkortostan became the first Russian region to publicly reveal his dead number in Ukraine. The authorities said that more than 5,000 soldiers in the region have been killed.
