The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Monday that he wanted to work with the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to end the invasion of Ukraine in Russia, after the two leaders spoke on the phone.
Trump added to his social network of the truth that Erdogan also invited him to visit Türkiye and that the Turkish leader would meet him in Washington.
“I hope to work with President Erdogan to get ridiculous, but mortal, the war between Russia and Ukraine ended, now!” Trump published.
Trump, who promised to finish the Ukraine War within 24 hours after his second term in January, has pressed kyiv and Moscow to reach a high fire agreement.
The NATO member, Türkiye, has tried to maintain good relations with its two neighbors of the Black Sea from the Russian invasion and has organized conversations twice for the end of the war.
The two leaders also discussed “everything related to Syria, Gaza and more” in what Trump called a “very good and productive telephone conversation” with Erdogan.
Trump said he and Erdogan had an “excellent” relationship that brought his first term as president of the United States from 2017 to 2021.
Turkish President’s office said Erdogan had told Trump that the United States efforts to relieve sanctions to Syria “would contribute” to the stabilization of the country devastated by war.
Washington has said that any normalization or lifting of sanctions after the expulsion of December of Bashar al-Assad will depend on the verifiable progress of the new Syrian authorities in the priorities, including the actions against the “terror.”
Erdogan also thanked Trump for his “approach to end wars”, with the statement mentioning Ukraine, Gaza and negotiations about Iran.
He raised the issue of the Gaza Strip hit by war, Trump says that humanitarian aid should be “being delivered to Gaza without interruption.”
Israel stopped all help to 2.4 million Palestinians in Gaza in March and its security cabinet approved the expansion of military operations in Gaza, including the “conquest” of the Palestinian territory.
Trump must visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates next week.
A message from Moscow Times:
Dear readers,
We face unprecedented challenges. The Office of the Attorney General of Russia has appointed Moscow Times as an “indifferent” organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our previous unfair labeling as a “foreign agent.”
These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim that our work “discredits the decisions of Russian leadership.” We see things differently: we strive to provide precise and impartial reports about Russia.
We, the Moscow Times journalists, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.
Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly from $2. It is quick to configure and each contribution has a significant impact.
