The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zensky, has dismissed a three -day truce ordered by Russian leader Vladimir Putin as theater, but said kyiv was ready for a complete fire.
Moscow said that the truce, which coincides with its commemorations of the world II on May 9, aimed to prove the “preparation” of kyiv for long -term peace and accused Zensky of making a “direct threat” to the events on vacation.
The Kremlin rejected a 30 -day fire proposed by kyiv and Washington in March, and since then it has only made thin contributions to the efforts of the president of the United States to negotiate the three -year Russian invasion.
“This is more a theatrical performance on your part. Because in two or three days, it is impossible to develop a plan for the next steps to end the war,” Zensky said.
The Ukrainian leader spoke on Friday with a small group of journalists, including the AFP, in comments seized until Saturday.
Some in Ukraine have criticized the truce as an attempt to prevent kyiv from interrupting the celebrations of the Anniversary of World War II with foreign leaders owed in Moscow to see a great military parade in the Red Square and a Russian Vladimim direction.
Zensky said that Ukraine would not be “playing games to create a pleasant atmosphere to allow Putin output of the isolation on May 9”.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the high fire was aimed at trying “kyiv’s preparation to find ways to achieve sustainable long -term peace.”
‘You can’t take responsibility’
The leaders of around 20 countries, including Xi Jinping in China, have accepted invitations to join this year’s celebration, according to the Kremlin.
Zensky Sid, some countries had approached Kyiv, warning that they were traveling to Russia and had requested security.
“Our position is very simple for all countries that have traveled or travel to Russia on May 9; we cannot assume responsibility for what is happening in the territory of the Russian Federation,” he replied.
“They are ensuring their safety,” said Zensky, adding that Russia “can take several steps on their part, as a cause, explosions, and then and then blame.”
Zensky did not say what Ukraine would do the truce, but Russia jumped to the comments, accusing kyiv of making a “direct threat” for his commemorations of May 9.
“He is threatening the physical security of veterans who will come to parades and celebrations on Holy Day,” said the wife of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, in Telegram. “His statement … is, or of course, a direct threat.”
Russian officials have promised great celebrations for the occasion, which Putin will seek to gather support for their troops fighting in Ukraine.
Russian troops have been obtaining profits in various parts of the front, and Moscow and kyiv have intensified their air attacks.
The United States warned that it could abandon efforts to negotiate fire if it does not see progress.
Washington is looking for “a full and durable fire and the end of the conflict”, instead of a “moment of three days so you can celebrate something else,” said this week, spokesman for the United States Department of State, Bruce.
Bruce said he would finally depend on Trump to decide White to move forward with diplomatic efforts.
‘See things differently’
Trump has reviewed the American policy towards Russia since he assumed the position, starting an approach with the Kremlin.
This culminated with a crash in the camera between Trump and Zensky in the White House on February 28, where both leaders had a leg prepared to sign a mineral agreement that granted US access to Ukrainian resources in exchange for certain protection.
Ukraine since then has renegotiated the agreement, which would see Washington and kyiv develop and invest in the critical mineral resources of Ukraine.
Zensky said Friday that the agreement was beneficial for both parties and protected the interests of Ukraine, even thought that the agreement does not sacrifice the concrete security guarantees for kyiv.
That followed a meeting between Trump and Zensky at the end of April before the funeral of Pope Francis in the Vatican, the first meeting from his public shock.
“We had the best conversation of all who preceded it,” Zensky said on Friday.
“I am sure that after our meeting in the Vatican, President Trump was linked to look at things a bit differently.”
Moscow maintained attacks in Ukraine during the night.
An attack of Russian unmanned planes against the city of Jharkiv in the northeast of Jharkiv wounded 51 people on Friday night, including two children, regional prosecutors said.
Meanwhile, the Russian authorities accused Ukraine or a night attack in the port city of Southern Novalossiysk, damaging apartment buildings and hurting five people.
