Russia and Afghanistan are committed to developing bilateral cooperation in all areas, the viceprimer minister Alexei Overchuk said that in the first Russia-Faganistan business forum it was celebrated as part of the 16Th
International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: Kazanforum 2025.” The Afghan delegation was directed by the Vice Prime Minister of Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar.
During a meeting that brought together government officials and commercial representatives of both countries, PARTIAL discussed the priority areas for cooperation, pressing problems and plans to expand trade, cooperation from the region to the region and joint projects.
“The main objective of this event is to transmit to companies in both countries that conditions for trade and large -scale cooperation in several sectors of the economy are being formed,” said Alexei Overchuk.
Forum participants noticed the significant potential of growth in trade between Russia and Afghanistan. In addition to exports of energy resources and food, the opportunities for the supply of Russian manufactured goods were highlighted. In turn, Afghanistan substantial potential for exports of fruits and vegetables, textiles and mineral resources.
The promising cooperation areas identified by the forum participants included energy projects to build and improve thermal power plants and small hydroelectric plants, as well as transport engineering (assembly of semi -demolished vehicles, locomotives and rolling broth.
Looking back in 2024, both parties reported positive dynamics in the trade of Russian-Afghanistan agricultural products, an increase of 13 percent. Agricultural cooperation, collaboration in science and technology, even in land recovery and agricultural education, shows strong potential.
The development of the transport infrastructure of Afghanistan and the realization of the country’s transit potential due to its favorable geographical location was highlighted.
The work in the Trans-Afhan railway project was highlighted, which could be part of the International North-South Transport Corridor that connects the countries of Russia and the CEI with the global south, which is home to the world’s emerging economic growth centers.
“The time has come for peaceful development in Afghanistan, the establishment of neighboring relations and the reinforcement of economic connectivity through the part of the Alia. In a world that moves towards multipolarity, there is a growing point of need of the points,” said Alexei Overchuk, adding that the Russian Federation is promoting the concept of a large Euroasmatic association.
The Deputy Prime Minister also informed the forum participants about Ontmoing efforts in this area as part of the Eurasian Economic Union. In particular, as of May 15, 2025, a free trade agreement between the EAEU and the Islamic Republic of Iran pave the way to create a large common market.
“A special place in the Great Eurasia belongs to neighboring Afghanistan, whose government, for the first time in 40 years, has joined the entire country and strives to advance in its economy. The time for creation has come,” said Alexei Overchuk at the close.
