Hosts Russia triumph in men’s team épée event at FIE World Cup in Sochi

The Russian team, consisting of Sergey Bida, Georgy Bruev, Nikita Glazkov, and Pavel Sukhov, secured victory with a 41-35 win over Ukraine in the final.

With the exception of Bruev, all the Russian fencers contributed to the Russian Olympic Committee’s silver medal in the men’s team épée at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s team featured individual bronze medallist Ihor Reizlin, along with Volodymyr Stankevych, Roman Svichkar, and Yan Sych.

Russia narrowly defeated Olympic team bronze medallists South Korea 40-39 in the semi-finals.

Ukraine, on the other hand, dominated Venezuela 34-19 in their semi-final match. Earlier in the day, they had secured victories against Azerbaijan (45-22), Sweden (45-38), and Japan (44-42).

South Korea bounced back from their semi-final loss to claim third place with a 42-39 win over Venezuela.

The Venezuelan team had an impressive run from the round of 32, securing wins against Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. South Korea, meanwhile, defeated Israel and Egypt on their way to the semi-finals.

The next men’s épée team event on the FIE World Cup circuit is set to take place at the Challenge Monal in Paris on April 17.
