An armed man who allegedly opened fire at Spartan College of Aerononics and Technology in Inglewood, wounding two employees, on Friday was arrested, authorities said.

The Inglewood Police Department responded to a call that reported a shooting at 8911 Aviation Blvd. at 3:39 pm, two women were tasks of a Trauma Center on Long Beach in a critical condition, said a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The mayor of Inglewood, James T. Butts Jr., said that a male suspect was in custody in Koreatown around 5:45 pm The Los Angeles Police Department issued the trial after the police in Inglewood shared a description of the plate and vehicle of the suspect with associated agencies, he said.

It is believed that the suspect, whose name was not launched immediately, is a former employee, Butts said. According to the reports, the man wore clothes that looked like the uniform of a security guard and was armed with a rifle, he said.

Both women were used at the university, but their specific roles and what led to the shooting was not clear.

“The reason for the crime was related to employment at school,” said Butts, a 19 -year -old veteran of the Inglewood Police Department. “It was not an act of random violence.”

A 9 mm shell housing from the campus was recovered, he said.

“Sitations like this are very discordant for a community because it promotes a feeling of randomness and threatens security,” Butts said. “This is a university campus; you do not see any reason that this type of crime is in school.”

The police spent more than an hour going from one room to another on the campus in search of a suspect or additional victims, but did not find anyone, authorities said. Inglewood Police said they cleared the campus around 5:15 pm

A school student told ABC7 News that he and his classmates were tolerated to take refuge inside a campus building for about 90 minutes.

“Everyone was terrified at the same time and I feel that we could not really panic,” he told the station. “We really had to only Stay Cool and the police were here to do their job and we simply did not do it because to intervene, so I hope that all those who were invoted are safe.”

The Spartan College of Siralonautics and Technology campus, the Inglewood Campus is a commercial school specialized in aviation maintenance education. Located at a mile of the Los Angeles International Airport, the Campus offers an 18 -month -old diploma and an associated title of 22 months to teach students how to repair and review the components and aircraft systems in preparation for the certification exams of the Federal Aviation Authority.

The president of the Campus, Christopher Becker, told ABC7 that there is 24 -hour security, 7 days a week on campus and regular security exercises, fire drills and earthquake drills.

“We are an aviation school, so security is one of the things we focus on most,” Becker told The Outlet. “It is a good community of students, teachers and personal. We all get along very well, we care deeply and this is difficult for all of us.”
